My goal in this document is to present a ‘Cliff’s Notes’ version of the Judging Mead section of the Mead Study Guide prepared by several members of the BJCP and available at this URL: http://www.bjcp.org/mead/Mead_Study.doc This document is very long and is intended to include all information needed to pass the BJCP Mead certification exam. Every bit of the following discussion is taken from this tome.
Judging mead differs from simply drinking mead as a judge is to compare his/her drink to idealized standards and discuss why it does and does not fit the profile.
Judging Beer At Club Meetings
Submitted by gtoothaker on Tue, 01/05/2010 - 11:48pm.Does anyone have thoughts about how to organize the judging of beer at the monthly club meetings?
As we have several club members who have recently taken the BJCP test, I would like to give everyone an opportunity to judge beers more often. This is also good for those who would like honest and immediate feedback on their beers. Anyone interested in judging could sit in on these sessions as well.
Is it too onerous for judges to fill out a beer score sheet during the meetings? Ten minutes per entry is too much, but I think the score sheets could be filled in quicker with practice.
